Registering to Vote

You must be registered if you wish to vote in a Parliamentary election, Municipal Corporations election or Tobago House of Assembly election in Trinidad and Tobago.  Your last opportunity to register or update your personal information before any of these elections is during the nine-day Electoral Registration period proclaimed by the President.  The day after the Electoral Registration period is called the Qualifying Date.  You will be qualified to vote if on the Qualifying Date you have resided in your electoral district for a period of at least two months.  During the period of electoral registration, you must also update your registration information if you have changed your name, moved to a different electoral district or constituency or moved to a different address within the same constituency.

Who is eligible to vote?

  • A citizen of Trinidad and Tobago who is 18 years of age or older and has resided in an electoral district/constituency for at least two months prior to the Qualifying Date.
  • A Commonwealth citizen, 18 years of age or older, whom has resided legally in Trinidad and Tobago for a period of at least one year and has resided in an electoral district/constituency for a least two months prior to the Qualifying Date.
